This destination plein air workshop with Scottsdale Artists’ School will be at the historic Saguaro Lake Ranch which is located on the banks of the Salt River in the shadows of the majestic Bulldog Cliffs. The ranch is just east of Scottsdale, AZ and includes private cabins and beautiful grounds surrounded by rugged desert views. Individual attention will be a high priority as well as laughs and lots of enthusiasm!

The Plein Air Painters of America Week is an inspiring workshop format like no other. You will have a unique opportunity to study with 4 master instructors , Mitch Baird, Eric Jacobsen, Mike Hernandez, and Cindy Baron at the Scottsdale Art School! The week will kick off with informative presentations at the Western Art Museum followed by 4 days of painting instructions in the Sonoran Desert. Learning from each instructor, students will participate in 2 two-day plein air workshops, first with one team of instructors and then following with the other team of instructors. Students will also be invited to PAINT-OUT at the amazing VERMILLION CLIFFS with instructors for an additional 3 days immediately following the class! Not to be missed and you are bound to come away with a leap in your work!
Seeing & Capturing Your Subject

What does the act of ‘seeing’ mean for an artist? Discover the answers in this five-day workshop as we explore the specifics of observing a subject, interpreting the visual elements, and executing it all onto canvas. We will discuss the way the optics of the eye work as well as seeing light, form, atmosphere and space. This will be a studio setting workshop at the Scottsdale Artist School full of insightful information.
Majestic Alaska

Come paint Majestic Alaska with its mountain peaks, lush forest and summer flowers!! This will be a 4 day plein air workshop based out of Anchorage AK. The core principles of painting will be covered such as, composition, value, color, as well as an emphasis on aerial perspective due to the lush air and distant views present up there. It will be a painting experience to remember!
Capturing the Northern Rockies En Plein Air

Home of the world famous Canadian Stampede and Banff National Park, Calgary offers a lot to paint and with over 300 days of sunshine a year, there is sure to be great plein air weather capturing the majestic Northern Rockies. The aspects of design, atmosphere, value and color will be covered. There will also be an additional evening demonstration included with registration.
Grand Canyon Grandeur Plein Air

Is there any better place to plein air paint and explore the concepts of atmosphere than the Grand Canyon? This a an amazing experience painting from the spectacular South Rim for 5 days in which we have special access to the park’s restricted locations!!! This workshop is also unique because we will paint 8 - 11 AM and then 3 - 6 PM to capture the dramatic light, and you can use the midday time to explore or relax.
